Yes, it does, higher refractive index corresponds to the thinner and harder lens. So for higher prescription lenses, the material will be of a thinner lens as it gives good cosmetic effect and has less weight as compared to standard available materials. Standard Materials: CR39 plastic lens has a refractive index of 1.49 and Hard Crown Glass has 1.5. You can have a refractive index for plastic in 1.49, 1.56, 1.89, 1.61,1.67 and 1.74 and for Glass materials 1.50, 1.60 and 1.70.
There are two types of Numbers. 1. Mendel Number and color code 2. Size of the frame that is in millimeters. It will look like this 54-20-140. Here 54 millimeters is the eye size, 20 millimeters is the bridge width, and 140 millimeters is the temple length.
